The key points:
- Earlier is
better than later. When using paste try to complete the process during the
first week. [video on using paste] When hot iron cauterizing 3 to 4 weeks of age is a good time.
- Use a local
anesthetic and remember that more restraint is safer for both the animal
and the person than less restraint. [diagram showing appropriate blocking injection]
- Less stress is
better than more stress. Isolate dehorning from other stresses.
